Sacred Time
This Sunday will be the last one of the Christian calendar year. Called Christ the King Sunday, this Sunday celebrates the Reign of God in Christ. The Sunday after that is the beginning of the Christian calendar year, called Advent. Between these two Sundays we see the Christian year come full circle.
This Sunday we will celebrate the glory and triumph of Christ over the chaos of sin and death as the “King of Kings.” But, you say, sin and death are still with us. Yes, that fact is undeniable. Here’s the truth of the matter. Death does not have the last word. Why? Because Jesus.
When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. - I Corinthians 15:54-56
In the church calendar, we experience a cycle of expectant beginnings and those expectations being fulfilled. Pay attention in worship over the next few weeks. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit reveals God’s presence to you in this time of expectation and hope. Every new year offers the hope of new beginnings.
See you Sunday!
