Pride

“True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.”
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Pride. It can be a great virtue or a deadly sin. When our pride is in the LORD we are able to thrive. When applied to ourselves, pride can destroy us. Quite simply, pride is a distorted view of self. Through the sin of pride we become overly focused upon ourselves and, as a result, think too much or too little of ourselves. It is a double-edged sword of hubris and self-loathing.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. –Proverbs 3:5-6

When we acknowledge what God has done, and proclaim it to all, that’s pride expressed in praise. I am very proud of what God is doing with our church. The Holy Spirit is moving and our ministries are thriving. Our response to such a blessing should be to tell our neighbors and invite them to come and see!

I have always said that the Holy Spirit is at work in this congregation. Let us continue our determination to follow God’s call and invite others to join us in this adventure!

See you Sunday!
